The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged presidential candidates in the next election to accept the results when they are made public.

CAN stated that the results should be respected regardless of whether they favor the candidates.

CAN emphasized that INEC must now take all necessary steps to ensure that Nigerians will have a credible, free, and fair election.

This was stated by CAN in a statement made accessible to journalists in Abuja on Friday and signed by the organization’s head, Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh.

Elections should be viewed as a peaceful phase of power transition, according to CAN, who made this point quite plain.

Concerning security, the Christian organization urged the government to set up the required systems, particularly in communities that are prey to attacks, and to make sure that no person is denied their right to vote because of the shaky security conditions in some areas of the nation.

“[We] call on all the political parties and candidates seeking elective positions during the forthcoming general elections to accept the results of the polls in good faith in the interest of Nigerians and the unity of the country,” CAN stated.
