Despite threats from criminal individuals and organisations, the military has told Nigerians that it will cooperate with other security agencies to guarantee that the general elections in 2023 go place peacefully throughout the country, including the Southeast states.
General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, provided the reassurance in Abuja at the 25th President Muhammadu Buhari Scorecard Series.
Bashir Magashi, the minister of defense, delivered the ministry’s scorecard at this edition, according to NAN.
When asked about the threat to halt this year’s general elections in the southeast states made by the faction of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Simon Ekpa, Irabor responded that neither an individual nor a group could do it.
He said: “The armed forces are working in concert with the Police and other security agencies to ensure that the menace of criminalities from IPOB and Eastern Security Network are eliminated.”
The assertion made by Magashi that “no territory of Nigeria is under the authority of Boko Haram or any other terrorist outfit” was also supported by Irabor.
He claimed that all of the communities in Nigeria’s North East had been freed of criminal groups.
