Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has revealed why he can not criticise the dreaded Eastern Security Network, popularly known as ESN.
Obi, who is the Labour Party Presidential flagbearer made this known at the Arewa Joint Committee for frontline Presidential candidates.
The Arewa Joint Commitee had the major presidential candidates invited to drop their manifesto and plans for the country if elected.
Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were the frontline presidential candidates invited to the conference.
But what caught the eye at Mr Obi’s speech was he asserting that the Eastern Security Network was formed by the government of the Eastern States (SE), adding that he couldn’t have condemned them.
Bifotad Media reports that the ESN is a creation of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu.
The former Anambra State Chief Executive erroneously linked it’s creation to the South East Governors.
The Ebubeagu Security outfit was in 2021 launched by the government of the 5 South Eastern States to curb the insecurity in the region.
Peter Obi, while answering a question on why he has not been condemning the actions of ESN, said:
“I answered them one after the other. You have not been following my campaign, that’s all I can say.
“One is that the Eastern Security Network was formed by the Government of the Eastern States.
“If they are the governors who formed the security team, how can I go and condemn them?”
